This app uses the accelerometer in smartphones (which can detect an earthquakes initial and imperceptible S waves) to provide data to USGS to increase the accuracy of future early warnings' magnitude, estimated time of shaking and intensity. This technology isn't perfect, but early warning is better than none. Early warning isn't much good if you aren't prepared Stock up supplies. Build over time. Create disaster strategies. Impressed! I got alerted 15 secs before the shaking started near Kern County on 8/7/24. Wasn't a major earthquake but good to know this tech is available! The app displays an image saying to take cover/incoming earthquake while an alarm is going off. I definitely recommend!

Nice to have in case of a big earthquake occurring. Would be nice if I could adjust the alert level more on the android version.

This is a great app. I really appreciate the early warning it provides. I discovered a problem with it with the quake this morning (9/12/24), though. I had Done Not Disturb set on my phone, and the alarm didn't sound. I have changed app notifications to allow this in the future, but I feel that as an emergency alert, the app should override Do Not Disturb, regardless of app settings. At the very least, the app should let the user know to adjust notifications settings at time of installation.

Had a few earthquakes locally already, and it didn't even tell me anything, before or after. Absolutely worthless

It never alerts me about the local shakes in my area, yet it'll alert me on shakes happening halfway across the world. A few times I even experienced a live earthquake as I was on my phone wondering if it'll finally send me a push notification, but the app just stayed silent. I did check all notification, location and background permissions, and power settings to make sure there isn't any interference. Obviously no issues there, but it's just not doing its primary job to notify me of MY shakes.
★★☆☆☆
I use the Earthquake Alert app. My Shake will NOT allow me to just see local quakes. I'm in the desert of SoCal and can see Alaska, Indonesia, etc. And I changed it to "nearby" numerous times. Plus where I live, I'm miles from the San Andreas and on top of about one dozen faults. This app is useless here because it alerts me AFTER I feel one.
